Private Ultrasound Scan FAQS

How should I prepare for the ultrasound examination?

Wear comfortable and loose-fitting clothing, as you need to remove clothing and jewellery in the area to be examined.
If you are expecting to have an injection, make sure you have arranged alternative transport. This is due to your motor insurance policy, it will not be valid for at least 3 hours after the injection. Please check with your insurance policy. Either bring your partner, family member or friend with you. Alternatively, you can use either a taxi or public transport to return home.
No other preparation is required.

How is the procedure performed?

Depending on the area to be examined, you will be asked either to be seated or to lie face-up or face-down on an examination table. Then the clinician applies some gel on your skin and places the probe over the gel, and the probe is moved around until the desired images are obtained. The clinician may ask you to move the extremity being examined to obtain images of all the structures of the body part.

Usually, the probe pressure does not cause any discomfort to you. However, you may experience some discomfort or tenderness while scanning over the tender areas.

After completing the ultrasound scanning, the ultrasound gel will be wiped. Ultrasound gel is a water-based gel and dries quickly without causing stains. After the examination, you can carry out all your daily activities as usual.

Ultrasound examination may take 10 – 20 minutes to complete, and occasionally may take longer.

When will I know the ultrasound examination findings?

We will discuss the ultrasound scan results with you after completing the exam, and the signed report will be provided to you at a later time.
Sometimes, a follow-up examination or further investigations may be recommended to further evaluate the identified abnormality.
A follow-up ultrasound exam may also be recommended to see if there has been any change in the abnormality over time or to understand the effect of the treatment.

Are there any limitations of Ultrasound Imaging of the Musculoskeletal System?

Ultrasound does not penetrate the bone beyond the bony cortex. For this reason inside the joints or bones cannot be visualised. MRI or other imaging modalities are ideal to visualise the internal structure of bones or joints.

The deeper the structure poorer the ultrasound image quality, therefore, deeper structures in larger patients may not be seen easily.

What are the benefits vs. risks?

Benefits
Noninvasive (not painful).
Sometimes, part of the examination can be uncomfortable, but not painful.
Ultrasound is less expensive than the majority of the other imaging methods.
No radiation and no known harmful side effects.
Ultrasound is a real-time imaging modality, making it a good tool for guiding the injection needle accurately.
Patients with metal implants or cardiac pacemakers can safely receive ultrasound imaging.
Real-time ultrasound imaging can show the movement of the tendon or joint.

Risks :

No known harm to humans.

Darren Gough Cricketer

"Having played professional sport from 1989-2008, I’ve amassed plenty of aches and pains after numerous operations. I’ve been around the world and seen some of the best Doctors and surgeons out there, and Ram has been right up there with his care and skill. Never in a rush, he’s kind, compassionate and very professional. Not only helped me with knee and shoulder pain, but he’s also treated my wife for elbow pain. My son is now going to see him as he’s seen a difference in how his parents are moving. Thanks for all your help, Darren Gough and Anna Gough"

Shoulder Hydrodistention Injection Milton Keynes

" I cannot recommend Ram highly enough. I reached out in desperation after being given an incredibly long NHS wait for treatment of Adhesive Capsulitis (Frozen Shoulder) so severe and relentlessly painful that I couldn’t sleep, drive, or do my job. Ram was so patient, kind, and professional. I had the shoulder hydrodistention with corticosteroid. I won’t lie, it was agony having it done, but SO worth it. Within 48 hours, the pain started to ease, and within 14 days, I was pain-free, with a huge amount of my mobility and my sanity restored. AMAZING.

I travelled from Devon to the Milton Keynes Clinic to see Ram, and it was absolutely worth getting up at 5 am to do it. Thank you, Ram. I will be forever grateful." Louise

Ultrasound Diagnostics and Treatment

"My wife and I actually saw Ram (full name Ramakrishna Rachaputi) at Milton Keynes Joint Care Clinic. He is a highly professional and extremely knowledgeable practitioner, possessing the skill set and experience necessary for precise assessments and treatments using ultrasound diagnostics for joint and limb problems. He managed to quickly identify underlying problems that had blighted my wife’s walking abilities over the preceding six months, and he was able to put into context why it was that symptoms had continually changed from day to day and which had appeared to be so confusing to us.

Ram has a calming demeanour but is considerate and attentive, which helps considerably in putting you at ease when you visit. He undertakes his ultrasound investigations with meticulous detail, with all findings being subsequently documented in a format suitable for presentation to other healthcare professionals." Vicks

Ultrasound-Guided Injection Treatment

"The whole experience with the Joint Care Clinic in Milton Keynes was excellent from start to finish, even the rescheduling to later in the day, which was handled very well. Ram's technique while injecting my finger was excellent; it was far less painful than previous experiences of injecting fingers, and it has had exactly the desired result. I would have no hesitation in recommending him." Angela

Shoulder Injury Steroid Injections

"I would like to wholeheartedly thank Ram. I had been waiting well over 8 months with the NHS to sort out my shoulder problem, to no avail. So looked for a private consultation with Ram at the Joint Care Clinic. After my consultation and an ultrasound, which diagnosed arthritis and bursitis, I received steroid injections. I have had steroid injections in the past, which I found uncomfortable, but under Ram's expert hands, these were not at all painful. One very happy lady." GB

Plantar Fasciitis Steroid Injections

"I recently visited Ram, this man is a genius. I have suffered with plantar fasciitis for almost 6 months, and I was given steroid injections, and I have now got instant relief. I would highly recommend anyone with this problem to get an appointment asap. Not only is this man highly knowledgeable and experienced, he’s got a great personality and he’s a genuine guy. " Paul

Shoulder Pain Steroid Injections

"I visited Ram after seeking a diagnosis from other practitioners. He was very kind and took the time to examine my shoulder. Show me the ultrasound and explain why my shoulder was so painful. He then gave me a steroid injection. which was a remarkably pain-free affair. After a week, I am considerably more comfortable. He is a caring, sympathetic individual, and I have no hesitancy in recommending him to anyone who wants to know what's wrong and receive advice and therapy. Thank you, Ram." Patricia

Ultrasound-guided Steroid Injections

"I am now pain-free after several years of foot and ankle pain, thanks to Ram. I had had steroid injections before by my consultant in the NHS, but these had a limited effect as they were not guided into the right place. Ram uses ultrasound-guided injections so he can get the steroid exactly where it is needed in the joint. He is extremely knowledgeable and very kind." Debra

Excellent Service - Ultrasound-guided Injections

"My experience at Joint Care Clinic was excellent. I was very nervous, but as soon as Ram greeted me, he very professionally put me at ease. Ram explained every step of the treatment in detail and explained that he would be able to ease the pain I was experiencing. The advice, support and cost of the treatment I received were excellent and very competitive. I will not hesitate to consult Ram in the future should I require quick and professional treatment and service. Thank you, Ram." Lynn
