Private Ultrasound Scan FAQS

How should I prepare for the ultrasound examination?

Wear comfortable and loose-fitting clothing, as you need to remove clothing and jewellery in the area to be examined.
If you are expecting to have an injection, make sure you have arranged alternative transport. This is due to your motor insurance policy, it will not be valid for at least 3 hours after the injection. Please check with your insurance policy. Either bring your partner, family member or friend with you. Alternatively, you can use either a taxi or public transport to return home.
No other preparation is required.

How is the procedure performed?

Depending on the area to be examined, you will be asked either to be seated or lying face-up or face-down on an examination table. Then the clinician applies some gel on your skin and places the probe over the gel, and the probe is moved around until the desired images are obtained. The clinician may ask you to move the extremity being examined to obtain images of all the structures of the body part.

Usually, the probe pressure does not cause any discomfort to you. However, you may experience some discomfort or tenderness while scanning over the tender areas.

After completing the ultrasound scanning, the ultrasound gel will be wiped. Ultrasound gel is a water-based gel and dries quickly without causing stains. After the examination, you can carry out all your daily activities as usual.

Ultrasound examination may take 10 – 20 minutes to complete, and occasionally may take longer.

When will I know the ultrasound examination findings?

We will discuss the results with you after completing the exam and the signed report will be provided to you at a later time.
Sometimes a follow-up examination or further investigations may be recommended, to further evaluate the identified abnormality.
A follow-up ultrasound exam may also be recommended to see if there has been any change in the abnormality over time or to understand the effect of the treatment.

Are there any limitations of Ultrasound Imaging of the Musculoskeletal System?

Ultrasound does not penetrate the bone beyond the bony cortex. For this reason inside the joints or bones cannot be visualised. MRI or other imaging modalities are ideal to visualise the internal structure of bones or joints.

The deeper the structure the poorer the ultrasound image quality, therefore, deeper structures in larger patients may not be seen easily.

What are the benefits vs. risks?

Benefits
Noninvasive (not painful).
Sometimes, part of the examination can be uncomfortable, but not painful.
Ultrasound is less expensive than the majority of the other imaging methods.
No radiation and no known harmful side effects.
Ultrasound is a real-time imaging modality, making it a good tool for guiding the injection needle accurately.
Patients with metal implants or cardiac pacemakers can safely receive ultrasound imaging.
Real-time ultrasound imaging can show the movement of the tendon or joint.

Risks :

No known harm to humans.

Ultrasound-Guided Steroid Injections

"I can’t thank Ram enough for the incredible care he provided. His expertise and knowledge were clear from the moment I walked in, and I genuinely felt in the best hands. He saw me the very next day and, for the first time in months, I felt truly listened to. I received a detailed ultrasound diagnosis and treatment on the same day, and just as he explained, within 3 days, I felt massively better.

I’m now able to do my daily activities again and sleep normally, which feels life-changing after months of discomfort. Ram also gave me clear recommendations for next steps, so I can continue improving and lead a normal life again.

If you're in pain or worried about steroid injections (like I was!), take it from me, Ram is the best person to help. Not only did he make me feel at ease, but his expertise really shines through. I couldn’t recommend Ram highly enough!" Jaspreet

Diagnostic Ultrasound Scan

"I had no hesitation in booking to see Ram again, as I knew I could be seen very quickly, and I'd likely leave with a diagnosis/and or treatment. Whilst this visit gave me a diagnosis where there is no real treatment, just management of my Achilles issue, knowing what I have and how I can manage it is hugely beneficial. I left with a diagnosis, along with a pre-warning of a condition Ram spotted during the ultrasound and details on how to manage that issue to prevent future ailments.

Ram is warm, professional, he explains his findings in terms easy to understand and is 100% focussed on you and not rushing to see his next patient. His clinic in Rugby is easy to find and has ample parking. Time to stop Googling and make that appointment with Ram!" Catherine

Ultrasound-Guided Injection Treatment

"I have severe arthritis in the talo-navicular, sub-talar joints and some bones of the foot. Before I researched and discovered Ram Rachaputi at Joint Care Clinics Rugby, I was in extreme pain and found even walking an exhausting activity. I had lost all mobility on that side of my body. I initially had a cortisone injection into the talo-navicular joint, and once we knew that had worked, I went back for a hyaluronic injection into the sub-talar joint. It has been transformational! Ram’s experience and passion for what he does are truly amazing. The level of care is outstanding. He listens and understands so well the restrictions I was suffering and recommends accordingly. I have just been back for more treatment in order to allow me to ski in January.

I have every confidence that Ram’s expertise and care will allow me to ski for the next few years. And I look forward to enjoying a much better quality of life in the future. Thank you, Ram. Don’t delay! If you are suffering, go and see him. It will give you your life back." Gemma

Carpal Tunnel Injections

"I have just had another carpal tunnel injection from Ramakrishna Rachaputi. I always find him professional and clear in his explanations. He always does a good job, and I would highly recommend him." Debbie

Knee Pain Cortisone Injection Treatment

"Had several visits to Ram over the last few years for cortisone injections in both knees. I have osteoarthritis. I was able to book each visit very quickly with hardly any waiting time for the appointment. That was really good, as I was experiencing significant pain.
Ram was the perfect professional and examined the joints and delivered the treatment with no fuss. It was the first treatment I had experienced like this, and Ram put me completely at ease. I can honestly say I did not feel any discomfort at anytime during the treatment.

Price-wise, the costs are very reasonable compared to similar services offered elsewhere. I have no hesitation in recommending Ram to anyone requiring any joint treatment." Steve

Plantar Fasciitis Steroid Injections

"I recently visited Ram, this man is a genius. I have suffered with plantar fasciitis for almost 6 months, and I was given steroid injections, and I have now got instant relief. I would highly recommend anyone with this problem to get an appointment asap. Not only is this man highly knowledgeable and experienced, he’s got a great personality and he’s a genuine guy. " Paul Davis

Frozen Shoulder Pain Injection Treatment

"A truly amazing experience with Mr Ram today. I visited his practice in Rugby to have a USG injection to help with pain and movement in my frozen shoulder. He explained everything in great detail before proceeding with the injection. He also highlighted a secondary issue during the scan, which I can now refer to my doctor. I travelled a 13-hour round trip from Devon, and it was so worth it as I am already feeling the benefit from my procedure." Anthony Waring

Shoulder Pain Steroid Injections

"I visited Ram after seeking a diagnosis from other practitioners. He was very kind and took the time to examine my shoulder pain. Show me the ultrasound and explain why my shoulder was so painful. He then gave me a steroid injection. which was a remarkably pain-free affair.
After a week, I am considerably more comfortable. He is a caring, sympathetic individual, and I have no hesitancy in recommending him to anyone who wants to know what's wrong and receive advice and therapy. Thank you, Ram."
Patricia

Excellent Service - Ultrasound-Guided Hydrodilatation

"Very professional and considerate practitioner who carried out hydrodilatation guided by ultrasound and administered a steroid injection to successfully improve the mobility of my frozen shoulder. After just 4 days, there is a measurable improvement in my shoulder mobility, which I will continue to work on. Highly recommended." Dawn

De Quervain's Tenosynovitis Treatment

"I recently had a cortisone injection for De Quervain's Tenosynovitis. Ram was knowledgeable, and the procedure was expertly administered. It did take a couple of weeks to fully feel the benefit." Jennifer

Darren Gough Cricketer

"Having played professional sport from 1989-2008, I’ve amassed plenty of aches and pains after numerous operations. I’ve been around the world and seen some of the best Doctors and surgeons out there, and Ram has been right up there with his care and skill. Never in a rush, he’s kind, compassionate and very professional. Not only helped me with knee and shoulder pain, but he’s also treated my wife for elbow pain. My son is now going to see him as he’s seen a difference in how his parents are moving. Thanks for all your help, Darren Gough and Anna Gough"
