Private Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) Clinics UK
Joint Care Clinics provides private Fine Needle Aspiration in the UK.
Fine needle aspiration (FNA), also known as fine-needle biopsy, is a non-invasive diagnostic procedure that collects cells, tissue, or fluid from suspicious lumps or areas of the body. Using a fine needle and syringe, a cytotechnologist and pathologist collect a sample of tissue and send it to a laboratory for microscope analysis.
The aim is to detect the existence of ailments like cancer, cysts, or any other irregularities.

Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) Treatment UK
Joint Care Clinics are HCPC-registered and members of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. and the Society of Radiographers. We offer a one-stop clinic for consultation, diagnostic scans and treatment. This service is offered by highly experienced clinicians. We use an ultrasound diagnostic scanner to pinpoint the area of pain for a more accurate diagnosis and tailor-made treatment.
What can Fine Needle Aspirations (FNA) be used for
You can use fine needle aspiration on lumps near the skin, such as thyroid nodules, breast lumps, and swollen lymph nodes.
When imaging tests like CT scans, ultrasounds, or mammograms expose unusual areas that require further investigation, it is especially helpful.
We can also reach other sections of the body via endoscopy, which allows us to do FNA on the belly or chest.

"Having played professional sport from 1989-2008, I’ve amassed plenty of aches and pains after numerous operations. I’ve been around the world and seen some of the best Doctors and surgeons out there, and Ram has been right up there with his care and skill. Never in a rush, he’s kind, compassionate and very professional. Not only helped me with knee and shoulder pain, but he’s also treated my wife for elbow pain. My son is now going to see him as he’s seen a difference in how his parents are moving. Thanks for all your help, Darren Gough and Anna Gough"

Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) Faqs
What is Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA)?
Fine needle aspiration (FNA) is a minimally invasive procedure that removes small amounts of sample fluid or tissue from a joint, cyst, or other region of interest within the body. It involves inserting a small, hollow needle into the target area in either palpation or ultrasound scanning directions. A lab receives the collected sample for diagnostic investigation to detect malignancies, inflammatory diseases, or infections.
Why might I need fine needle aspiration?
Usually, doctors recommend FNA for diagnosis or to rule out a variety of conditions, including cysts, inflammatory arthritis, joint infections, or tumours. It can give crucial information on the type of swelling, pain, or abnormal imaging findings. The procedure allows clinicians to make informed decisions without requiring further surgical biopsies.
What happens during the procedure?
During an FNA, the patient is usually positioned comfortably, and the skin over the area of interest is cleaned and sterilised. The clinician may apply a local anaesthetic to numb the area and minimise any pain or discomfort during the procedure. The clinician will then insert a fine needle into the joint or lesion, using ultrasound guidance if necessary. The syringe then aspirates a small amount of fluid or tissue. The procedure typically lasts only a few minutes. The post-procedural discomfort is typically mild and temporary.
What happens after the procedure?
Following their FNA, patients typically resume their usual activities, although they should avoid vigorous physical activity for a short period. The pathology lab typically receives the collected sample within a few days for analysis, and results are typically available within the same timeframe. Your clinician will discuss the findings with you and outline the next steps in your care plan based on the results.
Do I need a follow-up appointment?
Your clinician will discuss the findings with you at your follow-up appointment, and outline the next steps in your care plan based on the results.
