Arthrosamid® Injections Treatment in Market Harborough

At Joint Care Clinics, we specialise in accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of joint conditions through our ultrasound-guided injections. One of the most exciting and effective new options is the Arthrosamid® injection, a safe, long-lasting, and non-surgical treatment designed to provide improved knee function, real relief from joint pain and stiffness with effectiveness lasting up to 4 years.

Arthrosamid Injection Treatment for Knee OA

Long-lasting pain relief without the need for surgery

Arthrosamid® is a non-biodegradable injectable hydrogel. Unlike other treatments, it permanently integrates with the synovial lining of your knee. This creates a thickened barrier, reducing inflammation and helping to relieve pain over a long period, all from a single injection. After the injection, Arthrosamid® disperses into the synovial fluid and then binds with the synovial tissue, forming a soft, cushioning layer. This layer helps reduce irritation, protects the cartilage, and significantly reduces your pain, without needing surgery.

Common Causes of knee pain

Knee injuries are common in sports such as skiing, hockey, rugby, football, basketball, running, jogging, walking, cricket, squash, and any other sports that require a sudden change in pace and direction. In our clinic, we routinely diagnose and treat the following knee conditions:

  • Ligament Injuries: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is the most common ligament to be injured among the other knee ligaments (posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), medial lateral ligament (MCL), and lateral collateral ligament (LCL). Sports like football, squash, tennis, basketball, and other similar sports that necessitate frequent and sudden changes in direction are susceptible to ligament injuries.
  • Meniscal Damage: The meniscus is a tough cartilage situated between the tibia and femur that acts as a shock absorber. Sports that require sudden twisting and turning of the knee when planted on the ground are prone to injury to the meniscus.
  • Tendinitis: Tendinitis is inflammation of the tendon. Patellar tendinitis is the most common tendinitis seen in the knee. The patellar tendon connects the quadriceps to the tibia's shin bone. Sports such as running, skiing, cycling, and jumping are prone to developing patellar tendinitis. Steroids and viscosupplementation (gel) injections are popular treatment options along with rehabilitation.
  • Bursitis: To minimise friction, the bursa is a thin sac that acts as a cushion between two different structures. Bursitis is an inflammation of the bursa. There are several bursae around the knee. Common bursae prone to inflammation are the prepatellar bursa (in front of the patella) and the infrapatellar bursa. Under ultrasound guidance, the bursa can be diagnosed and the fluid aspirated.

Iliotibial band syndrome: This occurs when the iliotibial band becomes tight and causes friction over the outer side of the femur, which can cause snapping on the femoral condyle. If left untreated, it can also lead to adventitious bursitis.

Poor posture: Misalignment or untreated foot and/or hip pain can change the way you walk to avoid strain on the painful joints. This altered gait leads to excessive stress on the knee joint.

Several different types of arthritic conditions exist. The following are the various common arthritic conditions observed in the knee:

Osteoarthritis: The development of bony spurs, cartilage wear and tear, and the loss of normal bone contours cause degenerative arthritis.
    The following symptoms are common:

    • Parts of the knee are tender to the touch.
    • Pain with weight-bearing activities.
    • Morning stiffness or after prolonged rest.
    • Overgrown bony spurs produce brittle lumps.
    • When walking or climbing, you may feel or hear a crepitus or grating sensation.

Gouty Arthritis: Gouty arthritis is an inflammatory condition characterised by synovial proliferation, bony erosion, and the presence of uric acid crystals. Ultrasound is sensitive enough to diagnose the above. Ultrasound colour flow and Doppler activity can be used to detect the condition's active or inactive state. The toe is the most commonly affected joint. It can also affect the knee joint.
We aspirate a joint effusion under ultrasound guidance and inject a steroid for pain relief.

Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA): This debilitating condition commonly affects the hands and feet, but it can also affect the knees. Synovial proliferation, bony erosions, and pannus formation are the hallmarks. Ultrasound is sensitive enough to diagnose these.

      ULTRASOUND GUIDED KNEE INJECTIONS FAQS

How long does an ultrasound guided injection for the Knee take?

This will vary depending on the area and other factors, but an assessment, scan & ultrasound-guided injection will generally take around 60 minutes. Ultrasound-guided injection alone is done in a few seconds. Injection alone is carried out in a few seconds.

Are ultrasound guided knee injections painful?

Discomfort from the needle insertion can be minimized by using local anaesthesia using a very fine small needle. Ram is experienced and carried out more than 30,000 Ultrasound-guided injections so far. He routinely treats complex patients and patients with needle phobia, through the technique he developed through his experience.

What is an ultrasound guided cortisone / Steroid / Corticosteroid injection?

A cortisone injection is also known as a Corticosteroid injection or steroid injection. This is a strong anti-inflammatory medication that is used for many inflammatory and arthritis conditions to control pain, swelling, and stiffness and improve function. Corticosteroid injections are NOT the same used by bodybuilders. Corticosteroid injections do not cause weight gain.  To find out more, please visit our ultrasound-guided steroid injections page from the ‘Types of Guided injection’ menu at the top.

Always consider having the Steroid injections under ultrasound guidance for accuracy.

What is an ultrasound guided hyaluronic acid (HA) injection?

HA injection is also known as Gel injection or Lubricant injection. This viscosupplementation injection is a natural component of synovial fluid. This tends to increase joint fluid viscosity and restore joint lubrication. Hence, acts as a shock absorber to control joint/tendon symptoms. Limits further damage to the joint and delays or avoids the need for surgery. Also, helps to enjoy your daily activities or your preferred hobbies. To find out more, please visit our  GUIDED ULTRASOUND HYALURONIC ACID INJECTIONS page from the ‘Types of Guided injection’ menu at the top.

These injections are very popular, especially for knee joint pain. Any number of injections can be taken in a given period, due to minimal or no side effects from these injections. Usually, a course of 3 Injections is preferred, though some may do well just with one injection. We have patients managing just with 1/year.

Can I drive after a knee injection?

You will not be able to drive immediately after the procedure. Bring someone with you, or use another form of transport to return home. This is mainly due to your driving license policy, rather than injection efficacy. The majority of the motor insurance policies will not allow you to drive for 3-5 hours after the injection with Local anaesthesia.

What is the cost of a private steroid injection at one of your UK clinics?

The cost of steroid injections may vary depending on the area and how many are required. More than one injection in the same appointment attracts an additional discount.

Please see our prices page for a full breakdown of costs.

What should I expect after an injection?

After the injection, you may feel pain-free for a couple of hours due to Local anaesthesia. However, pain returns after 2 hours, and you may even feel more pain for a couple of days due to bruising. Usually, you should start feeling better from the third day onwards. Pain relief from the steroid injection may take 1 to 2 weeks.

How do I manage bruising pain?

Discomfort from the needle insertion can be minimised by using an ice pack (wrapped in a towel, to minimise the risk of frostbite from direct skin contact). Apply the ice pack to the area of treatment. Up to 3-4 times a day and 10-15 minutes at each time.

Will I always feel 100% pain free?

We can accurately inject the treatment area. However, pain relief depends on several factors, such as the severity of the problem, body response to the steroid injection, rest period following an injection, rehabilitation, and exposure to the risk factors.

how many knee injections can i receive?

Corticosteroid Injections: 3 or 4 per treatment area/year.

Hyaluronic Acid: no limit as long as you are benefiting.

What conditions can be treated with knee pain treatment?

      Common Knee Conditions We Treat:

Knee Osteoarthritis: We specialise in long-term pain management using Arthrosamid® injections, a non-biodegradable hydrogel designed to reduce inflammation and improve joint function. This minimally invasive option provides sustained relief for patients with chronic knee osteoarthritis.

Tendinopathies: Including patellar and quadriceps tendinopathy, which often result from overuse or sports-related injuries.

Ligament Injuries: Such as sprains or partial tears in the ACL, MCL, or LCL—frequent in active individuals or after trauma.

Muscle-Related Knee Pain: Pain or dysfunction linked to surrounding muscles like the quadriceps, hamstrings, or calf group.

Nerve Entrapments: Issues such as infrapatellar branch neuropathy or referred pain from spinal nerve compression.

Joint Effusion or Swelling: Often linked to inflammatory conditions or internal knee injury.

      Additional Pain Relief Options:

Trigger Point Injections: For patients suffering from persistent muscular pain, we offer a course of targeted trigger point injections. These are highly effective in reducing localised discomfort and muscle tightness, with most patients benefiting from 2–5 sessions.

How long the knee injection effect lasts?

The benefits of pain relief from a knee injection will vary depending on your individual condition and the type of injection treatment.

For many of our patients, the effect of a knee injection can last up to 3 months. However, some patients have experienced significant relief lasting a year or even longer. particularly when the condition was treated early and in combination with advised lifestyle adjustments.

We now offer Arthrosamid® injections, which are increasingly used for managing osteoarthritis-related knee pain. Arthrosamid is a non-biodegradable hydrogel that integrates into the synovial lining of the joint. This will help to reduce the inflammation and improve your mobility. Many of our patients report long-term improvement in both pain levels and joint function, often beyond a 12-month period.

Ultimately, the effectiveness and longevity of knee injections will depend on several factors, including the severity of your condition, the joint damage, and your lifestyle activity level.

The advice, support and cost of the treatment I received were excellent and very competitive. Shoulder Injury Steroid Injections

"I would like to wholeheartedly thank Ram. I had been waiting well over 8 months with the NHS to sort out my shoulder problem, to no avail. So looked for a private consultation with Ram at the joint care clinic. After my consultation and an ultrasound which diagnosed arthritis and bursitis, I received steroid injections. I have had steroid injections in the past which I found uncomfortable, but under Ram's expert hands, these were not at all painful. One very happy lady." GB

      Plantar Fasciitis

"I recently visited Ram, this man is a genius, I have suffered with plantar fasciitis for almost 6 months, I was given injections and I have now got instant relief . I would highly recommend anyone with this problem to get an appointment asap. Knee Injury Treatment

"I saw Ram last year with a persistent injury that I couldn't get rid of. Fantastic service right from the start, providing in-depth details about my injury and how he was planning to 'fix' it. After 2 visits to see Ram, he cleared my injury and gave me the confidence to start running properly again. Thank you, Ram."

      Jamie Loveridge

      Frozen Shoulder Pain Treatment

"A truly amazing experience with Mr Ram today. I visited his practice in Rugby to have a USG injection to help with pain and movement IN my frozen shoulder. He explained everything in great detail before proceeding with the injection. He also highlighted a secondary issue during the scan which I can now refer to my doctor. I travelled a 13-hour round trip from Devon and it was so worth it as I am already feeling the benefit from my procedure" Anthony Waring

      Shoulder Pain Steroid Injections

"I visited Ram after seeking a diagnosis from other practitioners. He was very kind and took the time to examine my shoulder show me the ultrasound and explain why my shoulder was so painful. He then gave me a steroid injection which was a remarkably pain-free affair.
After a week I am considerably more comfortable. He is a caring sympathetic individual and I have no hesitancy in recommending him to anyone who wants to know what's wrong and receive advice and therapy. Thank you, Ram"
      Patricia Russell

      Plantar Fascitis Treatment

"I saw Ram 2 weeks ago after struggling with plantar fascitis, unfortunately, my GP wasn't able to fit me in, Ram was extremely quick to respond to my enquiry and fitted me in 2 days later, the pain didn't completely go after the first injection and I've returned today for a second which Ram is confident will fully stop the pain. Ram was very understanding as I'm a very nervous patient, he also went to the trouble of buying thinner needles to reduce my discomfort.

Highly recommended, thanks, Ram." Rachel Aubrey

      Trochanter Bursitis Treatment

"After suffering with great Trochanter bursitis for several months, and unable to access treatment on the NHS for 8 to 10 months, 2 weeks ago I visited the clinic and I am now pain-free." Rachel Aubrey

      Consistently Excellent Service

"Consistently excellent service. I have been visiting Joint Care Clinic in Birmingham for a number of years for elbow and knee injections, always with Ram, the owner. He is an absolutely fantastic practitioner; highly skilled, very experienced, down-to-earth, and extremely polite. He explains everything clearly, calmly addresses all and any questions thoroughly. Ram has a friendly manner and treats patients with the utmost professionalism and respect every time. Ram has a refreshingly ethical approach and is honest about the pros and cons of any treatment. He works to THE highest standard. His skill is exceptional; the way he administers injections is effortless, with little to no pain at all. I once saw another practitioner elsewhere, and the experience could not have been more different; with Ram, the process is smooth, comfortable, and over before you know it!" Rashida G

      Wrist Pain Treatment

"I was in a great deal of pain and couldn’t move my left (dominant) wrist. My NHS appointment had come through, with an initial wait time of 10 months! I phoned Joint Care Clinic and was seen within a couple of days, with diagnosis and wrist treatment given there and then. The pain relief was life-changing, and I was able to again carry on with daily jobs that we all take for granted for the first time in months. I would HIGHLY recommend using Joint Care Clinics."
